pasty
« on: September 09, 2008, 07:42:20 AM »
Did a 48 hour over the weekend, lost a nice fish in the weed but around 2.30am when it was p**sing it down I had another run. The peg I was fishing was flooded so I'd bivey'd up about 20 yards away up the bank. After slipping about in the mud and getting p**s wet through I found a dam Tench about the size of a cornish pasty, god I wish I'd stayed at home  >:(

I fished yestarday for 5 hours or so and blanked again, I'd have loved a tench :) but the sun was shining ;)

I have to say though there seemed to be a fair bit of movement of the fish. I know theres only about 14 carp in the lake but I think I saw most of them yestarday  :P

Is it me or is there a pair that seem to patrol together all the time? Ones realy dark and quite big, the other is almost golden in colour (looks like a common) and a good bit smaller and leaner. I know nothing about carp habits but I have seen these same two together very often.

I also saw one yesterday which looked like a barbel, torpedo like and very brightly coloured like an Orf.

Many carp stick together in groups or pairs of two's and three's. In the angling mags some of the big name anglers often comment on seeing this fish or that fish with its entourage. The common thesis is that the bigger older carp, being more wary, team up with smaller less experienced carp so as to allow them to go first in feeding so they can watch and look for trouble or anything suspicious. I have seen this type of behaviour on the Korda DVD's. And they say fish are stupid. We're the stupid buggers for paying nearly £100 to fish a pond that is only fishable for about five months of the bloody year. And thinking about it, I am certain that I have seen the carp you mention!!

Stu (and one or two others) have siad its dead. :( Which put a smile on my face because one of the lads in my local tackle shop was taking the p!55 out of me because I had bought a Ravenfield permit and he said it would be choked with weed so he was moving to Wentworth. :) I think it hasnt recovered fro the floods or something like that.

The two rod permit is for the second dam, stu is on the third dam where I don't think there is a waiting list.

From what I have heard they lost a few fish from the third in the floods but they ended up in the second so theres a bit of an out cry about it with the thrid being so much more to fish [£400 seams to ring a bell but I might be wrong on that]. Stu will tell you more on that but I know they have been catching fish in the second that should be in the third, pepole have been checking there catches with photos to know where the fish have come from.

I cut my carp fishing teeth on the second and there were some nice fish to be had then, the only draw back being no night fishing :'(
In them days there was no waiting list, it was just first come first served. The tickets went on sale on a set day each year and when they were gone that was it. I remmber getting to the office one year at about 4am when it didn't open while 9 to find about 50 people already in the que before me.

I was hoping to go somewhere big where you can cast! LOL I had been chatting with one or two of the guys at Ravenfield about it, maybe we should organise a trip away perhaps? Anyone up for it?
