Update on Carp Charity Match
« on: October 25, 2008, 10:44:11 PM »
Hi everyone.
Sorry I haven't posted for a while, but I've unfortunately been in hospital for a bit.

Things are not going too well with the charity match. I posted twenty letters to local angling stores detailing the reasons for hosting the match, and asked for any donations of tackle or bait, however small to help us raise as much funds as possible through raffles and prizes etc.

Somewhat disgracefully I think, despite sending a self stamped addressed envelope in with each entreaty, only one tackle shop has responded. That was Billy Clark's tackle, and they sent vouchers totalling twenty five pounds.

On Friday I sent out another ten entreaties to other angling shops. If none fail to respond, the only prizes we will have to offer for the match will be a free weekend's fishing, donated by Alderfen fisheries themselves, the £25 worth of vouchers, and three trophies I have purchased - one each for 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

What I would like to know is whether people would still like the match to go ahead with such poor prizes on offer? Or will people be happy enough to fish for the title of 'Alderfen Charity Match 2008 Carp Angling Champion', along with a trophy?

Due to my health I will not be able to compete, but will be able to be on hand to witness the weighing etc, so that would be one problem out of the way. I will wait until Friday for replies to the letters sent, then if anglers on this forum are still happy enough to go ahead with the match for the few prizes we have on offer, I will contact Alderfen immediately and get a date set, then post the entry forms on the forum, or to anyone who requests one.

I hope you all have been getting your string pulled at Ravenfield since the weeding, and close with best wishes.

Stu

its disapointing that none of the parties approached have offered any support , just shows how little they value our support in keeping the tills ringing !
I am more than happy to still fish the event and I am more motivated by the cause than prizes anyway , so don't get too despondant Stu , I'm sure everyone else feels the same .
yid army!

I too will fish no matter what. It is disapointing that these companies can't be arsed to help out a fellow angler. Hve you spoken to any of the big companies like Dynamite Fox etc?

I was advised by several people who, in the past, had undertaken similar ventures, not to bother contacting any of the bigger names as they had failed to respond to a number of entreaties submitted to them when they had contacted them themselves. I also thought that with the Cavendish Centre being based in Sheffield it made sense to target shops within the Sheffield area who would most probably have heard of them, due to the amount of fund raising they do around the city.

How wrong could I be.

By the end of the week, if I have failed to receive any replies to the second batch of entreaties that I have sent, I will contact Alderfen, arrange a date (one in which you are able to fish hopefully Adi), and get the entry forms posted.

As I stated before, I will be unable to fish so will offer my services for the weighing and witnessing of fish (I'm gutted!)

At least there will be some prizes, and a nice, even if small, trophy for the top 3 placings.

I'm still up for it. I have been talking to Paul {carpy888} and he is too.

Stu, If you PM carpy888 a copy of the letter you have been sending to the tackle shops he will take it to climax tackle, he is thick in with the owner and I'm sure he will worm a bit from them.

Hope your feeling beter  :)

Guys, I have been contacted by Stu to say that it is looking like he won't be well enough to organsie this event. He was wondering if any of us would be happy to organise it. All those interested take one step forward :)

I will certainly do my best to help out, but I have one or two concerns.

Alderfen need a months notice prior to the date we set, which is looking like early December now. I won't know what weekends I have off until the 15th of this month.

Is it going to be too cold to catch anything other than a cold? You lot have more experience of carping in winter than I do!

any other thoughts?

It will be harder then mid summer but From what stu has had to say I don't think we can let that put us off.

I have just explained the details of stus last email to carpy888 and we are both willing to muck in with the sortng out of the match.

If you know anyone else who fishes at Ravo can you get in touch with them.

Do you think Terry will fish? We need all the hands we can get.

Ive just sent an email to everyone who is registered on the site. Hopefully it will drag a few people in here who will fish. Fingers crossed.
