Anyone recommend a good reel at reasonable cost? I have a Shakespear jobbie that cost me £25, you get what you pay for! The line lay on the spool is cack! So I want to get a new one.

Any ideas?

if cost is an issue have a look at the good old shimano baitrunner , that wont let you down . It will be good enough for most stuff apart from fishing at range.Shouldn't cost you more than £50 brand new if you shop around . If you want to treat yourself , daiwa are the daddies when it comes to reels .

I have a shimano baitrunner 6000, tis a nice real too, i got it as a package with the rod.

My gear is a bit of a mishmash! 3 different rods, 3 different reels 3 different alarms, only 2 bobins, both different, 3 different lines, the list goes on! I just like to be different.

I think I might go for another shimano. What kind of range would be too far for one of these do you rekon?

all depends on the rod its on and your ability to cast distances I suppose . A bit of a flipant answer I know , but I've seen a couple of lads at wentworth fish 90-110 yards at wentworth with similar reels . Good line lay can be as important as a larger spool.

well with a bit of room I could adopt the beach casting pendulum cast. There again ...... I spend more time in the trees than your average lumberjack!

As mist of my fishing is on Ravenfield these days I think shimano might do the trick.

My reel of choice would be Daiwa Infinity 5500 BR for larger waters however normal shimano baitrunners are well upto the job when fishing upto 90 yards.
1000xte are expensive for what they are so look on ebay for 3 (if you need 3 that is) Shimano 6010 baitrunners which are excellent you may get the 3 for around £100.

Mate they must be paying you too much!

I wold like a 2 man bivvy, specially if we are going to France for a week. Thing is I dont know if I'm being made redundant yet so I'm hanging on to my money for now.

Carpy thanks for your views on reels.

You can have it for a fiver, when I have saved up enough to get a new one ;) If your out of work mate and you need a barrow it has to be worth every penny. It just isnt as strong as a £100 one. Thats a special price to you, anyone else its £15, just cos your out of work, you can return me the favour sometime ;)
