Sorry about this booze business, but it wasn't just the silly antics of a few. Our insurers did ask what our policy was, and while they didn't say there would be a problem if we didn't ban d/d, they were clear any accidents that could be attributed to d/d would be frowned on, which sounds to me like a good get out.
Also something has highlighted them generally to the problem or they wouldn't have raised it and this can only be the behaviour of a certain section of carp angling. If I've heard about it you guys must have, one evening in Doncaster told me everything I need to know. Also a pal of mine in the Colne Valley who runs a fishery/club says that d/d bans are becoming increasingly popular in the south.

The problem is as you say a large number of carp anglers do partake in a few drinks. If I were running a commercial fishery that rellied only on income from carp fishing I would be nervous about banning it purely from a revenue point of view. More so for day ticket waters with large stocks of fish.

If venue A won't allow it venue B will and guess where all the guys are going to go who like to have a couple of pints on a Friday and Saturday night.

Out of interest before taking peoples money for next season will there be a circular included with the reminder for renewal with the new rules?

I think if I were a potential new member then I would be keen to join, I am just struggling to get my head around the change in rules. None of us like change.

When I joined Ravenfield I paid £80 and could have a drink if I wanted, now at the same club I am paying £100 (fair price I guess) but can't have a drink.

When the pond is busy some people still insist on fishing 3 rods all over the place, which is silly, and annoying but I would not be happy if a rule was brought in to stop that either. Common sense should be used and for those that don't have any they should be shown the door ... erm gate. :)

hi martin just out of curiosity why werent the main culprits shown the door as me personally aint bothered about drink being allowed or not but it was nice to enjoy a can with other members and ive only seen a couple of people take the mickey and think its ok to get hammered and to hell with the consequences and ive not seen them warned about this and are still active members ive been told in the past if this happens take there lines out of the water but this doesnt solve the problem it only prolongs it and im sure the club know whos the main culprits ? i dont mind going round picking rubbish up and doing my bit but i go to fish and enjoy my spare time , we got a letter regarding going for refreshments and leaving pegs but thats carried on all year with the few responsable the same people so i hope this year the new rule changes will be policed correctly

Cheer up Hursty :)

End of the day the rules are made and I can see why the rule was brought in.

The club certainly won't suffer I am sure there will be plenty of new applicants to step into any vacant slots. The commitee has to do what it thinks is the best for the club overall and being a rule / law abiding citizen I have to decide what to do. Bending or breaking the rules isn't in my nature, must be my strict upbringing! :D

I echo Steve's thoughts.

Regarding Adi's point I have put a note on the web alerting members, although it's in the carp section, and a full copy of the rules have always been on the site, but I guess no one reads them either before or after joining, which is a bit silly.

Stuart I also understand your point about policing, but we have always tried to be relaxed rather than aggressive
regarding rules and if everything is running smooth let it run. However barbed hooks demonstrate the folly of doing that, but checking everyone's hooks every time still seems a bit OTT.
I've always adopted a live and let live view which means people can destroy their livers, lungs or brains for me, I've had a go at all of them in my younger days....as long as they don't annoy others. We have to act however if we receive a complaint, as you've experienced, and then we have a procedure to follow, and we always seek both sides of the argument, but the outcome can vary tremendously dependant on circumstances.

I think a relaxed attitude is the way to go.

Cemex have fewer rules (barbed hooks only, you just can't win can you !) but they are enforced. I was chatting with a guy the other day at Apex and he was worried that the he was going to get in to trouble because carp sacks are banned at the venue. Not just banned from use, but just not allowed on the venue. This guy had forgotten and had one in the boot of his car. He was worried he could lose his ticket because he had technicaly broken the rules. Albeit accidentaly.

It is a bit scary :)

Hey all, not posted for a good while.

Personally dont see a problem with a few tinnies to keep ya warm in the rough weather, but see a big problem when having too many. Puts the angler at risk, and if they get a take, will they safley get to the rod and safley pull the fish in. Think there should be a responsability amongst us all of which i know most do. nobody wants OTT rules, and should be a relaxed environment. Think whoever is going OTT with there drink, should be calmly advised and given the explanation of how there saftey is affected, the saftey of the fish stock and basically how it makes the fishery insurance void for them.

Can't really change rules mid season Stu , if anyone wants to get so hammered they put the fish at risk they will surely be dealt with in the same manner as the last offender .
