I've only really fished Lady pit farm this season , and to be honest its a bit too easy . I don't think it's a true reflection of the Trent though or maybe it just seems easy because I spend so much time on the Dearne ? ;)

If your not fishing the Trent for barbel, your missing out on some fantastic fishing. But at the mo its probably not worth it until we get some +8C waether. If you need any pointers on areas give me a PM. You still get the odd eel though. Last season summertime average catch was a good 8 barbel a session with the odd 16 in a catch. Most of that was daytime and a bit of darkness. But it does slow down as the cold weather hits home.
If your gonna go this time of year choose your day well, i generally wait for around 4 days of warmer weather.  2-4 small elips pellets glued to a hair works well with a bit of paste wrapped around, has been the most successful.

Sorry for forgetting to log in. The Trent is the premier UK barbel river of that there is no doubt. It is the most prolific for certain. I've fished the Wye, Warwickshire Avon, Idle, Don, Trent, Wharfe, Swale, Dearne and Calder this year and talk to a lot of lads who fish the Teme, Severn and Derwent. They all wish that they lived near the Trent. The average size varies from venue to venue, not all the middle Trent holds small fish. The areas that hold the big uns on the middle tend to be more fickle. Johnny has put a lot of effort in on the Tidal last season and has had some very good fish. I've had at least 18 doubles this season and my best Trent fish was from the middle.

As for the chub, I have had them to 5lb 15oz from the Dearne. I had 6 out one day and none were smaller than 3.5lb and 2 were over 5lb. I haven't been back there since because I have found out that there aren't many barbel in that stretch. Next season I'm going to fish lots of different rivers particularly the harder Yorkshire rivers early season just because I fancy a change. I like the Tidal in moderation but wouldn't want to fish it week in week out. I love the Dearne, it's the theatre of dreams!
