Warning On Barbed Hooks
« on: December 11, 2009, 10:02:50 AM »
I havent had time to post the news on the Ravenfiled site yet, but I will when I get a minute but basically it is this with a couple of photos of a carp rig which looks like a ready tied one to me as the flouro or mono that is used is welded. Anyhow here is the news:

Warning on barbed hooks.

This last week a carp rig was found hanging from a tree. It had a barbed hook attached. This is not the first time barbed hooks have been found and anglers are being warned that anyone using these hooks will be banned from the fishery with immediate effect. There are no excuses.
As a result of this it will once again be necessary to check hooks and rigs, a nuisance to those who abide by the rules, but necessary until the problem is resolved.

Silver fish anglers should also take heed, there are still those among you that use barbed hooks too, and your hooks will also be checked.

I found a rig just like the one you say at the beginning off the year it had solder on the hook and was attached to a tree next to the back off the island swim the rig did not look right at the time i thought it could be an polish or foren person at falt. What are the chances of finding two rigs in trees both have barbed hooks and solder on the hook.

There's are quite a group of carp anglers that in their view think that barbed hooks are the way to go when it comes to fish safety, not just at ravo but in the carp world as a whole. However no matter what your veiws you must stick to the rules for the water you are on.  I'm with stu, unless there are rig checks made and made all the time not just after something like this then these people will continue to use barbed. I've no problem with anybody checking mine. In fact if it wasn't for going to the pads lake for  48 24hours there wouldn't even be any in my box let alone on a rig.

It's just one more thing that goes against carp anglers for the club. They are thinking about pushing the carp fishing at the venue but how long is it going to be at this rate before they think its more trouble than it's worth!

Checks were done today , ok I was the only one down there but I made myself reel both rods in and checked the hooks . Seriously fellas , as Andy says , rules are rules no matter what your personal views are . We all know the rules when we buy a ticket , if anyone disagrees with them , don't join the club .

Don't forget lads , in your permit it says all anglers must act as bailiffs . Please feel free to ask anyone to show you their rigs if you feel comfortable doing that .

Problem with that is if say I walk round at 10am and get everyone to wind in, then AndyOak goes round at 12 and does the same, when you turn up at 3pm and ask you will get thrown in.

Why not get a group together where one angler checks the rigs and tickets on a set day. This could then be posted on the gate so the people there will know that someone will be making the checks. Plan would need so ironing out but if we cleared it with the committee first then I'm sure between us we could come up with something.

Ade your such a pedant  ;).  We just need to be vigilant , that's all . It's easy to cast an eye over someones rig when they are rebaiting or you help land a fish for them , you don't need to make someone reel their gear unless you have good cause to . I am sure Keith along with the committee members will be happy to do random checks , but it would help if we self policed the situation amongst ourselves .

Thanks for the offer mate but I'll give it a miss. I said I was fed up not hard up.

I was just thinking, when I get laid off we could have coffee mornings at each other houses and get some of the other house wifes round couldnt we?
