Hows the pond been fishing lately?
« on: August 19, 2009, 10:52:56 AM »
Hey all, just lately the carp have been laughing at me. Blanked the last 3 times ive been(twice monday/tuesday this week). Just wondered if the carp are getting harder to catch at this time of year or whether its my inexperience at fishing.

Have you guys had much success of late. Any tips you could lend ;-P

cheers

Where abouts you guys catch them? Also what time of day, just trying to get an idea of the most successful times/areas. Most of my fishing is done mid week 6pm untill around 11pm

cheers

like stu says find them in the edge and keep well back and quiet . I wouldn't bother with those lazing about in weed/pads those lazy ba$tards are just sunbathing . Steve

I got one out of the pads last time I fished, but in the hedge bottom, so I guess it wasnt lazing around it was looking for food, or it liked my aftershave perhaps.

Stuarts right, I have had more sucess this year by casting at showing fish or fishing on the odd clear patch I know they visit.

I take my hat off to Graham, I haven't seen anyone else put so much time in with floaters. I just get frustrated :)

Cool, thanks for the advice chaps.

What kind of rigs/setup do you use when your stalking.

Most rigs will work , the main thing is to find some carp (obviously) . I alway like to thread a small pva stick on , the more oily the better at this time of year . Keep your mainline slack , I add a few blobs of lead putty upline to make sure it all stays down and out of the way of the carp. And keep QUIET  ;)

Like hursty says most do work but i found keep things simple otherwise youll just end up going round full circle with rigs. Those fish that you can see arnt usually bothered about feeding only sunin themself. The edge of the weed beds seems to be a favourite(try tipping bait with a grain of plastic corn). Im sure if you asked most people on the bank when your down theyd be more than happy to help you out as there a good bunch ;D

Due to the fact I havent been abole to get fishing on Ravenfield carp lake much this season I can't give you much more advice than the others on here. All I will say is if you are only fishing days Waterpig is right mornings are good. But I'm lazy :) So I usualy do 5 or so hours from mid day. Shallow end is where you will see fish but they are very often just sun bathing. I have had them out of the shallows.

Be prepared to move around, its a pain in the bum but works, Like Waterpig says they seem to like yellow things ;) Keep yourself hidden too, they dont always spook if they see you but I promise you that if they do know your there you wont be catching those fish.

Evenings they seem to move back up the lake towards the deeper water. Which is I guess where the most of the feeding is done. Zigs seem to work well for some people too, not for me though :)
