The shiny new site:
http://www.ravenfieldponds.co.uk/

The email to the site is now working too as I have had a reply from Martin to the mails I sent a good while ago.

Adi, if you don't mind me asking, and as I know that your initial e-mails to Martin related to concerns many anglers had regarding the state of the carp lake, what sort of response did you get back from Martin Read. I still have not had any reply back to a single communication that I have sent to him over the months. E-mail me direct if you would prefer. Many thanks. Stu

It seems there was a problem with the email address on the site.

I have never met Martin but from his emails he seems like a very nice bloke who is keen to engage with the carp anglers.

I would think if you have emailed him at the address on the site you would be getting a reply soon.

Martin has said they have tried chemical in the past with little effect, although it might be better doing it at a different time. He also says that the problem with increasing stock levels in an attempt to reduce weed will affect how the bigger fish put weight on due to cometition for food.

I would certainly like to sit down with the bloke and have a proper discussion with him.

It seems what has happened in the past until Terry joined the committe was a total lack of communication from the carp fishermen and the people running the lake. They would be interested on catch weights etc for the fish so they can see what is happening with the fish.

Obvioulsy we now in a position to gather information.

What we need to do now is make a positive effort to get toghether with the committe or at least Martin perhaps and share our ideas and concerns with them. It will do no good us standing on the bank moaning if we aren't moaning to the right people. :)

Good sentiments Adi. It's probably all too easy for us to stand on the bank bemoaning this, that and the other, when maybe, if we were in possession of all the facts, we might see things differently.

It is imperative that the committee that oversees the running of Ravenfield Carp Lake listen to what the anglers have to say - whether that be good or bad - which puts the empathis on us to document the problems we see and table any possible solutions in an effective manner, within a framework set up and acceptable to both parties.

Let's face it, the committee will surely not want to run the risk of having no anglers renew permits next season due to the ongoing weed problem that is prohibiting them from fishing for at least half the season. But I do know from speaking to Terry and Keith that in the past, a number of carp anglers were adamant that they wanted to help get the fishery in shape, yet despite the committee making concessions and putting regular notices up regarding work parties etc, no one ever showed up to help, so plans got shelved.

We need to prove that this crop of anglers are different, and that we will willingly work with the committee to make the carp lake one that every carp angler can be proud of. A number of anglers (Adi & Paul most especially)have already spent hours raking weed and tidying bankside rubbish and vegetation. It's a damn good start and just the kind of proof that we need to show the committee that the willingness to improve the lake is there and the work already underway.

What do people think of putting our heads together and drafting a proposal to be submitted to the committee which outlines the reasons for our grievances, but also highlights any steps we can see that would help those grievances be dealt with with the help of all carp anglers concerned. That way instead of just griping and complaining, which is likely to yield no results whatsoever, we can put across solutions that, with all anglers chipping in, would probably cost the committee nothing to impliment.

I believe that only by working with the committee will we ever achieve any results. And letters submitted by individuals will fail to carry the weight of ones submitted by a group acting on the behalf of all.

So what do people think? How about we form a group dedicated to improving the carp lake at Ravenfield? I can only see good coming from a venture such as this. But we need to act, and to act now. Too much time has been spent wishing that conditions at the lake were better than they are, so let's take action to make them better with the full co-operation and backing of the committee - a committee that, on occasion, we are possibly guilty of knocking too easily.

That I can believe, its human nature, well British nature really, we are good moaners but that is all. What we really need to do is guage how many of the carp permit wallers are prepared to stop moaning and start doing.

I enjoy my time at Ravo, either on the carp lake or on the other lakes, I would happily pay a bit more if the carp lake was improved a little with reagrds to the weed and possibly making the swims a little more user friendly, with either wood chips or gravel. I am quite happy to help too, or even do the work myself if thats OK with the commitee.

However what does worry me is a handfull of us work our butts off dragging weed etc only to pitch up to fish to find a moaner who doesnt 'do' has settled in a swim Ive spent half a day raking :)

Anyhow I think thats enough moaning for now we have made a start on a very worthwhile cause so lets concentrate on the good stuff.

Apperently it has a new script running on it that checks your browser cache, if its full of porn it wont let you visit the site.

Seriously though, it is working fine for me. If you still cant see it let me know what the error says and Ill try and give you an idea what to do
